Meet our students

Class of 2012
Elijah Candelario

At his parents’ insistence, Elijah Candelario, class of 2012, transferred to St. Pius X his junior year. Although reluctant, Elijah now realizes it was the best choice for him. Once at the school, he saw that the St. Pius X experience enriched him in many ways and opened up doors for him.

Elijah found the language and the history program at St. Pius to be excellent. “Senior Retreat was amazing,” he remembers.  Seniors retreats are overnight, while underclassmen take day long retreats. “The teachers are real role models in faith,” he says.

When Elijah transferred as a junior from Sandia High School, he brought the YMCA Youth in Government program to St. Pius X. Under his leadership, the club found a moderator, wrote bills to take to the Model Legislature in Santa Fe in spring 2011 and 2012.

Elijah was elected to the Governor in the model state legislature for his senior year, when he presided over student representatives from schools around the state. “I am grateful for the opportunity to develop my leadership role here at St. Pius,” said Elijah.

Elijah is continuing the Youth in Government program at the collegiate level at UNM, which has one of the most active college programs in the nation. He is majoring in government and economics and is in the ROTC program.
